About the Role

Join our academy as a Professional Development Phase Coach/Analyst in a unique dual role (0.5 FTE) that combines coaching with performance analysis. This position offers the opportunity to make a direct impact on player development at a crucial stage, while shaping a data-driven approach across the academy.

As a PDP Coach, you will lead one of our most important age groups through the transition toward senior football, focusing on both technical and personal development. Simultaneously, as a Performance Analyst, you will establish our analytical framework, delivering insights that enhance coaching effectiveness and player progress within the U17 and U18 age groups.

Key Responsibilities

Professional Development Phase Coach

  • Programme Leadership: Lead the U17 coaching programme, applying age-appropriate technical and tactical development strategies.
  • Session Design: Plan, deliver, and review high-quality training sessions that prepare players for senior football.
  • Match Management: Oversee U17 matchday preparation, team selection, and in-game decision-making.
  • Individual Development: Create personalised player development plans, track progress, and identify pathways to senior football.
  • Holistic Development: Support players’ technical, tactical, physical, and psychological growth.
  • Mentorship: Provide guidance on professional pathways and life skills.
  • Performance Monitoring: Continuously assess readiness for senior football progression.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with academy staff, education partners, and parents to ensure all-round support.

Professional Development Phase Analyst

  • Department Development: Establish and lead the PDP performance analysis function, defining standards and methodologies.
  • Technology Integration: Implement and manage video analysis tools (e.g., VEO, Hudl).
  • Data Strategy: Design frameworks for data collection and analysis across PDP age groups.
  • Performance Analysis: Provide detailed technical and tactical insights to coaching staff.
  • Opposition Analysis: Deliver scouting reports and tactical briefings for fixtures.
  • Player Analysis: Produce individual player performance profiles and recommendations.
  • Trend Analysis: Identify patterns and trends to inform coaching strategies.
  • Coach Education: Train coaches in analytical tools and data interpretation.
  • Presentation: Deliver clear, actionable insights to players, coaches, and management.
  • Innovation: Stay updated with industry best practices and emerging technologies.

Work Environment

  • Locations: Training facilities (Studley Sports Centre, B80 7BF), match venues (home & away), and office environment.
  • Schedule: Part-time, seasonal (August – May), with flexibility for evenings and travel.

Desirable Qualifications

  • UEFA A Licence (or working toward completion).
  • Master’s degree in Performance Analysis or Sports Science.
  • Previous academy or professional club experience.

  • Salary: £12,500 per annum (pro rata)
  • Working Pattern: Part-time, seasonal

Requirement

Coaching Qualifications

  • UEFA B Licence (minimum) or commitment to complete within 12 months.
  • FA Licensed Coaches Club membership.
  • FA Youth Awards or equivalent youth coaching qualifications.

Analysis Qualifications & Skills

  • Degree in Sports Science, Performance Analysis, or related field.
  • Proficiency with video analysis tools (e.g., VEO, Hudl).
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills (particularly Excel).

Experience

  • Minimum 2 years’ coaching experience at academy or semi-professional level.
  • Proven experience in football performance analysis.
  • Demonstrated success in player development and team management.
  • Experience working with players aged 16–18.
