Organizational Setting

The position is located at the FAO office in Tandojam. FAO Pakistan focuses on poverty reduction, food security, sustainable livelihoods, and rural development. The role is under the GCF-funded project: Transforming Indus Basin with Climate Resilient Agriculture and Water Management.

Project Overview

The project aims to shift agriculture in the Indus Basin from a vulnerable state to a climate-resilient one. It includes three main components:

  1. State-of-the-art climate and water information systems
  2. Farmer training and adoption of climate-resilient practices
  3. Creation of enabling environments for sustainable adaptation

Position Level

This position is classified as SB III-SC5 level.

Reporting Lines

Reports to:

  • FAO Representative in Pakistan
  • Head of FAO Sindh Office
  • Technical Advisor & Lead Technical Officers
  • International Water Expert and Senior Water Management Specialist

Technical Focus

  • Water resources management
  • Remote sensing
  • GIS
  • Weather and climate systems
  • Stakeholder coordination

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with Sindh stakeholders for installation/maintenance of weather and water sensors
  • Monitor telemetry data and diagnose field issues
  • Ensure documentation compliance by service providers
  • Support training events and workshops
  • Coordinate with stakeholders for data sharing through online portals
  • Train farmers on water-related topics and participatory monitoring
  • Assist with crop mapping using mobile and remote sensing tools
  • Participate in procurement evaluations under Component 1
  • Contribute to project database and success stories documentation

Technical/Functional Skills

  • Knowledge of water management in Sindh
  • Experience coordinating with government and farmers
  • Desirable: Work experience in Sanghar, Umarkot, or Badin
  • Analytical and report writing skills in English
  • Experience with QGIS and MS Office
  • Local language fluency is an asset

Requirement

  • Master’s in climatology, hydrology, hydrogeology, water engineering, IT, or GIS (with water/climate focus)
  • At least 1 year of relevant professional experience
  • Working knowledge of English
  • Pakistani national
